With holidays and family gatherings right around the corner, let Bexley Public Library be your place to discover family history and preserve your memories – for free! We have special genealogy programming this October in honor of Family History Month, and we invite you to explore the tools in our Memory Lab.
If you have old family photos, videos, and films that you’d like to view and share, reserve some time in our Memory Lab. We have equipment for quickly scanning photos and scrapbooks, and digitizing VHS tapes and 8mm film. Turning your photos and films into digital files not only better preserves them for posterity, it also allows you to more easily share them with family members and create meaningful gifts.
Our family history-themed programming kicks off on Saturday, October 7 with “Discover Your Ancestors” which will get you started with the basics of family history research. Continue your exploration on Saturday, October 28, with an introduction to Ancestry.com and FamilySearch, two robust and free genealogy resources. And the week after Thanksgiving, we’re offering “Sharing Our Stories: The Benefits of Life Review and Reminiscence” which will offer recording tips for capturing your family stories now for future generations.
If you need a little extra help getting started with research or utilizing the Memory Lab, one-on-one assistance is also available through our Book-a-Librarian program. An hour-long appointment with a librarian can be made via phone, our website or by talking to a staff member during your next library visit.
