Planning a trip to somewhere particularly literary? As we inch closer to summer I’m thinking of how to savor time off. Truth be told, a vacation from the first through the fifth sounds like a five day vacation, right? But factor in flights and time zones, it could be more like an evening and three days. This was my recent experience visiting Los Angeles. Day one we arrived in time for dinner, spent three blissful days in the sun, and day five we left before breakfast.
Whether your trip is three days, five, or seven, it will likely go too fast. My tried-and-true tip to an enhanced and extended vacation is to compile a Read/Watch/Listen list prior to departure. Reserve numerous place-based items, discover what’s most appealing and what you have time for. Flip through a guidebook, read a novel, find something on Libby for the plane, watch a movie or documentary, study a cookbook for local cuisine.
Part of the happiness we derive from travel comes from anticipation. Let the library help you arrive early and stay late!
My trip to L.A. started when I opened the library catalog. Anticipation grew as the reserve notifications started rolling in. The following items were waiting for me on Bexley Library’s hold shelf:
